What is Menopause?

Menopause is not a disease. It occurs when we stop having our period for twelve consecutive months. For most of us, menopause occurs naturally. However, about one percent of women experience premature menopause (menopause before the age of 40) due to Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI). Others will experience surgical onset menopause, if their ovaries are surgically removed before they reach menopause naturally.

If you live in the U.S., you may be able to find a certified menopause specialist in your area.
